Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international research program with the goal of mapping and understanding all of the genes of human beings. I was called the Human Genome Project because all our genes together are known as our “genome”, and the hereditary material of all multicellular organism is DNA, which contains all of our genes. Genes are strands made of four bases, which are arranged in different ways and in different lengths.
The researchers have deciphered the human genome and found out three things. First they determined the sequence of all the bases, then they made maps that show the locations of the genes in our chromosomes, and then they made links that can let inherited traits be tracked over generations. The HGP found there are around 40,000 human genes, compared to the the 100,000 that was previously estimated.
